Matthew Jenkins contributed to the restoration of the Chapel of the Sisters while employed as a Project Manager at CTA Architects. The 1857 Chapel was commissioned by Nicholas Ludlum as memorial to his three deceased daughters. The chapel and surrounding 1668 cemetery are individually designated New York City Landmarks.
After being vacant for over 20 years, the restoration of the building became the focus of the Prospect Cemetery Revitalization Initiative. This group was a collaboration between the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, Prospect Cemetery Association of Jamaica Village (The Prospect Cemetery Association), the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the owner, the City of New York’s Department of Parks and Recreation.
The multi-year project included bringing new electricity, heating, plumbing to the structure. Restoration included new wood windows and doors, new flooring, repair of the interior stucco walls, restoration of the original wood tracery and stained glass windows and exterior stone repairs,
The CUNY - York College Jazz Program now uses the Chapel for jazz performances.
